ABOUT OPEN CHANNEL SYSTEMS

The Open Channel System combines business analytics with conservation and communications tools to comprehensively manage finished water.

A tidal wave of data from advanced metering infrastructure systems and associated information is now inundating water utilities and their customers. Instead of drowning, utilities now have the opportunity to systematically manage, protect, extend, and utilize these data to improve management of precious resources such as water, energy, and air using the Open Channel System. The Open Channel System™ (OCS), developed by Radian Developers, aggregates utility customer relationship management software (CRM) with multiple internal and external data sets in a secure environment, incorporating data screening and analytics to enhance utility-side and customer-side water management.

STEVE WHITESELL, PRINCIPAL AND FOUNDER

Steve Whitesell is the Principal of Radian Developers, a company that has worked on data collection, analytics, and billing data with water engineers, conservation specialists and other organizations – including public utilities, municipalities, universities and non-profits – for over a decade. As Principal of Radian Developers, Steve has worked to define industry standards for communications tools that lead to modifications in behavior and technologies that reduce consumption.

The Open Channel System combines the sectors of data collection and analytics with sales process analytics. This system includes utility analytics, field data, public data and a client relationship management tool to define the correct amount and type of messaging that will lead to a reduction in the use of resources, including water and energy. To accomplish these complex objectives, Mr. Whitesell has recruited a team of developers and system architects, industry professionals and user-experience designers to implement the Open Channel System.

Education and Background Highlights

Steve holds a Master of Science degree in Forestry from Utah State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California.

Mr. Whitesell’s business acumen has been informed by both his experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala working on reforestation and soil conservation projects and his graduate research, which developed funding models for tropical biological field stations in developing countries, much of which was conducted at Makerere University Biological Field Station in Kibale National Park, Uganda.

JASON CRAIG, SENIOR DEVELOPER

Jason holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer science and Mathematics from Utah State University (USU), but his fascination with computers began in seventh grade when taught himself to program in BASIC using MS-DOS, C++, and eventually HTML, JavaScript, C#, and others.

During college, he began his first job in software development at the Center for Persons with Disabilities at USU. Due to the mission of the Center, he learned to use new web technologies, while working with an interdisciplinary team and gained a strong appreciation for and knowledge of web accessibility.

In 2007, Jason began working with IWO Creative, a web development firm in Logan, Utah. At IWO, he was able to work on projects with clients ranging from small local businesses to large, international corporations like Chem-Dry and Home Depot. Here he gained a deep mastery of various CMS platforms during this time, including Plone and Drupal.

In 2010, Jason began working with Radian Developers where he has had the opportunity to program for clients from various sectors such as water conservation and engineering, steel and energy, database and software development, application development, web-based content management systems, and shopping carts.
